Notes from the artist, Betsy Seplowitz

I was fortunate to spend time with the Student Council at Tecler Elementary School this spring.  I enjoyed my time with the group and they inspired every aspect of this design.  With the exception of the lettering, the design is hand drawn. The design is based off of 8 points — loosely representing a compass as kids chart their course as young learners.  There are ram tracks that circle within the design … but they start off as tiger tracks in reference to Tecler’s original mascot.  The pattern with circles and ovals represents friendship;  kids with their arms stretched out holding hands as if you were looking at them from above.  And a ring of sunshine representing the LIGHT that LEADS.  The Light House is front and center sharing the a community priority – Be the Light that Leads Others.
